Stellar line-up at Stonnington’s sensational summer of music

Australian music icons, Dave Graney and Normie Rowe, the internationally acclaimed opera singer, Michael Lewis OAM and one of Australia’s best-loved musical theatre stars, Silvie Paladino, are among a superb line-up of talent performing at a series of free outdoor concerts presented by the City of Stonnington across summer.
The packed calendar of events, being staged in the City’s beautiful parks and gardens, offers an eclectic choice of family-friendly concert programs to suit lovers of all kinds of music from some of Australia’s leading performers, musicians and conductors.
The popular Sunset Sounds January series continues on Sunday 19 January at Malvern’s Central Park with a treat for jazz, blues and R&B fans featuring Bob Sedergreen’s Stonnington Jazz Showband and special guests including Australia’s Queen of the Blues, Kerri Simpson.
Sunset Sounds celebrates Australia Day on Sunday 26 January with legendary King of Pop, Normie Rowe, performing a string of his hits from the 60’s including Shakin’ All Over and It Ain’t Necessarily So with his band, The Original Playboys on stage at the Malvern Gardens.
February begins on an altogether different note with Opera in the Park on Saturday 1 February at Prahran’s Victoria Gardens. The concert will feature highlights from Verdi’s Il trovatore performed by leading soloists including Michael Lewis OAM, a Green Room Award-winner and one of Australia’s most admired opera stars, who performs regularly with Opera Australia and with many symphony orchestras worldwide. For Opera in the Park he will perform with an orchestra conducted by Berlin-based Rebecca Anne Hicks.
On Saturday 15 February a touch of Hollywood glamour comes to Ardrie Park in Malvern East when Musical Melodies goes to the Oscars! A sensational line-up of leading lights of the Australian stage will perform songs from some of the best loved movie musicals of all time. Guest artists include Silvie Paladino whose star turns have included leading roles in such blockbuster musicals as London’s West End production of Les Miserables and national touring productions of Cats and Miss Saigon as well as the AFL and ARL Grand Finals and Carols by Candlelight.
King of the Dudes, Melbourne’s own icon of cool and master of re-invention, Dave Graney, will make an unforgettable cameo appearance with the fabulous Stonnington Symphony at the last, of the free concert series, Symphony under the Stars on Saturday 1 March at the Malvern Gardens.
